What Exactly is a
Hand Therapist?

A practitioner of hand therapy is a highly-skilled occupational therapist or physiotherapist who has very specific training in treating and diagnosing injuries and conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. SA Hand Therapy staff are trained to have in-depth knowledge about anatomy, physiology and pain and apply this to treating different conditions. We are specifically skilled at developing rehabilitation programs and assisting people with functional hand or upper limb issues impacting their ability to perform essential activities.

Our therapists are able to select and fabricate custom orthoses / splints / compression garments using a range of materials including thermoplastic, leather or fabrics. We are also trained to care for injuries in the very early stages including management of wounds and scars or removing sutures. Our therapists are registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and engage in education and professional development internally and through The Australian Hand Therapy Association.
