Techniques and Modalities
SA Hand Therapy clinicians are trained in the use of many therapeutic techniques to assist with pain and soft tissue tightness/ immobility. Often during and after an injury, muscles, joints and ligaments can become tight and stiff. This is especially evident following the first few weeks of an acute injury. Having a toolbox of techniques allows us to find the most comfortable and effective ways of increasing movement and strength.
Modalities include electrophysical agents such as ultrasound, neuromuscular stimulation, hot and cold therapy and are used in our clinic through careful selection. Therapy techniques and modalities used together with a home program of movement and exercises can lead to less pain, improved movement and ultimately better outcomes.
There is a wide selection of techniques and modalities that we might use. These options include:
- Dry Needling
- Kinesiology Taping
- Therapeutic Ultrasound
- Electrical / Neuromuscular Stimulation
- Massage
- Joint Mobilization
- Heat Applications including Fluidotherapy and Wax Bath
