Common Conditions
Neurological Issues
Neurological conditions can impact a person in many ways. A neurological issue is caused by disruption to the nervous system. The nervous system comprises of our brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. The peripheral nerves supply messages to our muscles for movement and skin for sensation.
Some types of neurological issues are present from birth such as cerebral palsy or a genetic disorder which may cause movement and / or cognitive difficulties. Other neurological issues can be caused by a trauma such such as spinal cord injury or an acquired brain injury. A stroke for example might cause muscle weakness or a change in muscle tone.
Other neurological issues that occur may have viral causes as emerging evidence indicates. While understanding the cause of the condition is critical, we are also looking at how we can manage the symptoms and prevent emerging consequences to preserve function.
